Recovery residences for addicts in Emporia, Ks.
Addiction seems to be an endless cycle where the addict has lost hope for successful long-term recovery. Together, we must end the cycle of addiction by providing an empowering environment where addicts can truly break free from their addiction.
Sue has been an addict for five years. Sue has vowed to stop using drugs many times. Three months ago, she went to a residential treatment program for 28 days and returned home with the best intentions.
Where will she live? Her family was frustrated with the ups/downs of addiction. Mike (her ex-boyfriend) has a history of domestic violence. Her friend Mindy has a drug problem too. Within a month of staying with Mindy, Sue was associating with the same peers, and one thing led to another. Soon, she relapsed. The police stopped Sue for a defective brake light. She was arrested for possession of meth and drug paraphernalia and was sentenced to 18 months of drug court instead of prison.
Through drug court, Sue has addiction treatment. Drug court requires the following of Sue each week: four three-hour group sessions, three one-hour individual sessions, four narcotics anonymous meetings, a drug court appearance, an appointment with her probation officer, random drug tests, and a 10 pm curfew.
Sue does not any viable options for a healthy place to live. There are no shelters or transitional housing available in Emporia. Sue applied to with Empower House Ministries Inc. where she will learn how to find a job, budget, cook healthy meals, find her new identity in Christ, and establish new connections in the community while living in an empowering environment.
We opened a recovery house for women in February of 2022. Currently we are working towards our next step which include increasing our capacity. Donations and financial contributions will be utilized for the following:
Initial facility expenses - Rental deposit, installation of locks/security, and minor building upgrades (paint, lighting upgrades, etc.). One-time expenses.
Recovery is more than the absence of drugs, but rather is lifestyle changes to prevent relapse.
